I am tired of waiting so long to be served in this pub,
Bored with the same old same old,
Fed up with the boring menu,
Disgusted with the management for baring a hard of learning customer and his mother in front of everyone in the pub simply because his face didnt fit,
Who are the management anyway? where are the proper landlords? you know the ones that are interested in the customer and not just the profit, there has got to be better than this in Ickenham,
Where has all the original fun pubs gone, please can someone tell me

Ended up eating here yesterday due to the Spoons being too busy and was impressed. Obviously knew that the food here would be more expensive (the only reason we choose the spoons usually is because current finances are not at their healthiest) however, it was well worth the extra few quid.

Upon arriving, I noticed that pub seemed comfortable and friendly. It was also clear that this was a very food orientated place (an observation not a criticism)

The pub does have some real ales on (albeit the ubiquitous Pride, Youngs Ordinary, Spitfire along with the not so common TT Landlord). I opted for the Landlord which was in good nickand at just over £3.00 a pint certainly didn't burn a hole in the pocket.

Food was really excellent and well worth the price. It would be nice if maybe they could introduce a couple of changing guest ales however, this may a condition of the PubCo that they can only sell the beers that are currently on.

All in all, I would definitely return to eat. If I am just drinking though, it has to be the Spoons for their varied and cheap beers.

7/10

Another fight there last night, have stopped going there on Fri/sat nights as their clientele is a bit volatile,

Had a quick visit here on a week night and found a busy pub with a quiz night taking place plus plenty of diners. Ales on were Youngs Ordinary, Shepherd Neame Spitfire, Sharps Doom Bar & Timothy Taylor Landlord. It's a large pub, but typical of a chain pub and not really my cup of tea. The Old Fox is nearby and more of a typical local. Otherwise you also have the Wetherspoons across the road, where we headed to next.

Nice pub this.
Busy at weekends and has Landlord on draught.

Definitely a food orientated pub with an extensive menu and daily specials.
Smartly decorated and quite comfortable throughout. Family friendly but only if the kids are eating (under 14's have to go outside where there are heated umbrellas over the tables). Several seating areas around the single bar with some laid out for dining and others for drinking and dining. There were 5 real ales when we visited - Youngs Bitter/London Pride/Doom Bar/Landlord and Purity UBU - all in good nice and reasonably priced. Coffee is available as are daily papers. Pleasant enough pub,but as we found out - no football colours when there is a match at Wembley. (Ickenham is a popular venue for supporters going to the stadium as it has a tube line to the ground and an overground line at nearby West Ruislip).

No longer an Ember Inn as M&B have sold the Coach to a new pubco. Hope they maintain the good beers and food... will have to see.

I used to drink here nearly 40 years ago and visited recently it just 'for old times sake'. It looks virtually the same from the outside and has a good carpark as before. Sadly for me it is not now really a 'pub' as it is part of the Embers Inn chain and is more like a restaurant in atmosphere. (very corporate ) I cannnot deny it's comfortable with leather sofas, open fires, courtesy newspapers, beer garden etc. The food seemed quite expensive (but looked ok). Beer selection was bog standard. It seemed pretty busy at lunchtime, and apparently also gets busy early evening. I went down the road to the Soldiers Return instead!

I guess almost any alehouse can be visited on a bad night. I think they had a bit of trouble t'other night in that well-known haunt of oiks and trotters-in-the-trough, the Houses of Parliament.
I've used the Coach for forty years or more, and, yes, an occasional fracas.
Occasional - like many another boozer.
It's the booze that does it, you know.
Martin - nowhere in Nu-Lab Britain is perfect [was it Ever?].
Accept that - or . . . . . emigrate to - well, Afghanistan, or New Orleans, or Zimbabwe [named after some ruins, I gather] or Putin's New Model USSR.
Etc.
railtracksurvivor - 3 Apr 2009 22:59
Bit harsh Martin! The Coach attracts a young crowd and on the odd occasion you will get an oik that can't handle his beers and kicks off - sadly that can happen in any pub at any time. But u make it sound like a 'trouble' pub which is simply isn't.

I have drunk here for 16 years or so and witnessed a fight on the very first night i was in here - some idiot picked up a stool and went to hit this bloke but ended up hitting his missus instead - that was approx 1991-1992. Since then I have seen the odd scuffle but nowhere near the same league as the stool incident.

Its still a decent boozer (although as soon as it changed to Ember Inns a few years back the character was lost, which was a shame cos the old coach was far better) - food is decent, they do decent range of beers and its still the venue that people will go back to after years of being away for a catch up in Ickenham.

Principally, Ickenham is an OK area (not quite as good as residents would have you believe, nonetheless). This pub, however, manages to encompass all the filth within it, or travel to it. Fights are fairly common. NOT a place for decent respectable folks
MartinShaw - 22 Aug 2008 20:26
Part of the Embers Inn chain, it's comfortable with leather sofas, open fires, courtesy newspapers and a large beer garden with lots of covered areas. Food's simple and ok, beer selection is pretty standard. It gets pretty busy early evening, especialy in warm weather and it's sometimes difficult to get a table to eat from.
Magp1e - 3 Feb 2008 21:05
Decent range of beers and wines and not a bad price really. Food wasnt up to much compared with similar stuff from spoons. Staff and manager looked semi suicidal for some reason.
nebulai - 24 Sep 2007 21:03
A nice pint of Youngs Bitter to be had here in the extensive beer garden,8/10
fat_beer_badger - 7 May 2007 18:49
This is a gorgeous pub and whilst I like the nearby Tich, I slightly prefer the more traditional Coach! Great beverages and grub, resonable staff and the garden is the perfect place to spend a warm summers evening! Al Murray would probably describe the coach as a "Beautiful British Boozer!"

This pub has re-invented itself more times than Madonna. These days the interior looks like the same old homogenised soulless chain pub that epitomises the area. Its glory days had to be late 80's early 90's when it still felt like a local rather than a Wetherspoons wannabe
tbase26 - 14 Apr 2007 16:29
I was in the pub for the quiz night on a Tuesday a few weeks ago. I was quite impressed with the pub but the quiz is a farce. EVERY person in the pub seemed to be cheating! The quiz master is totally naive to what is going on. The young student group who won the quiz were seated beside my table and almost didn't bother hiding the fact that they were using their mobile phones to cheat. The quiz master wasn't even surprised when this group got EVERY SINGLE question right. A decent pub with a good crowd but don't bother doing the quiz unless you're a complete mug punter or prepared to cheat.

Back again on Friday last.
Food continues good, and they continue to adhere pretty strictly to a 'No food orders after 9 p.m.' policy; this is well signed, and I have no problems with that. A lot of customers for lunch.
Beers are sound, and with several popular lagers, plus Cobra and Strongbow, plus a resonable selection of apparently very adequately kept wines [in recent hot weather, I cool reds, too!] many people should find something to their taste.
What really impressed me was the heterogeneity of the clientele, all ages from kids with their parents [in the garden], through the Club 18-21, the thiorties and forties/fifties, to certainly late sixties-early seventies [at least], and all having a good time. No problems noted anywhere.
Bar staff were happy and pretty efficient.
Do I have a tiny gripe - well, the toilets are upstairs, but are well looked after.
I rather think this is now worth an eight - to me!

This used to be my local in the early 90's and it was an absolute dive ! My first night in there the landlord was attacked by someone he'd barred the night before. I moved away a few years back so hadn't been in there for a while and I have to say that it's unrecognisable. It's a listed building, I believe, so although the outside hasn't changed, the interior is completely different with a massive no smoking section and big bar. There is a big mix of ages in there and weekend evenings it's rammed with under 30's before they head off for the Bright Lights of...ermm...Uxbridge ;-)

Hee, Hee. Man, do I remember this pub back in the very early 80s. Used to be rough where most of enjoyment was puffing outside vs drinking pints. A lot of dirtbags as well. It was always a nice pub inside though. Looks good now w/the picture. Will be heading out to the burbs when I get back to visit the UK in a few months and will have to check it out for old times sake.

Venue for many Vyners [Grammar] School Reunions [thanks to friends reunited].

Not cheap, nowhere is these days ["I remember when you could get a pint of brown and bitter for 2/5d"].

Music is rather too load for the old fart brigade, who don't like to have to shout to make themselves heard!
Clean, tidy, and the food is good.
railtracksurvivor - 11 Jul 2005 15:27
Had another revamp - looks nice I suppose. Even during rehearsals for 'Bruce Fest' at the village hall on Saturday afternoon, it was frequented by us Coach legends. Well done Bryan for ordering Bombardier and pronouncing it Bom Ba Dee.

tombsie - 5 Jun 2005 19:03
Easy pub to visit - reagrdless of being with your parents or your friends. No scruffs, but no poseurs either. Background music, bar food, and in the summer some cracking entertainment (not regular) - bring back the guy with the amazing voice doing covers of all the bext oldies! We danced ourselves silly in the garden.
anonymous - 17 Jan 2005 14:08
new landlord at last - good to get rid of the lazy bloke who worked there before. This chap is a lot friendlier and actually gets off his backside and does some work! Great pub to go down to for Xmas and meet up with the old crowds who always flock back there around this time of year.
anonymous - 11 Dec 2004 12:18
nice pub for a quiet drink with your mates to catch up n that, really nice beer garden. staff a bit odd, not very friendly. got quizzes too on tues nites
anonymous - 27 Aug 2004 14:48
I went there at the weekend and there was one gorgeous blonde barmaid and one unfriendly manager. Nice pub though, good beer garden.
Mandela - 8 Aug 2004 20:37
Manager is rude and looks out of place there. I used to come down here years ago and even the staff have become unfriendly or just plain odd.
Al Tandy - 18 Jul 2004 16:48
great place for a summer drink - beer garden rules. although they have nailed the chairs down now which is cack as they have been put too close together.
Matt - 20 May 2004 21:15
the coach used to be scruffy and a little bit oiky...which made it excellent. now its an ember inns pub, it has lost its old spark. nice a pub as it is, very clean etc, euro 96 england 4 holland 1 ...you know if you were there, beer on the ceiling! just a shame they have to change pubs so much...
