Visited the waterside inn on the 19th december, to witness what can only be describeed as a morgue. The pub was empty and cold but not as cold as the staff, it was that cold i actually thought the tide had come right in through the door! The reason i use the word morgue is because the special of the day smelled and tasted like a roting carcus! This one man band outfit, is fronted by frankensteins drunken wife!

My parents came down from Bristol for a pre-christmas visit, decided to take them to The Waterside, we have ate there before (during the summer) and as usual a good menu, service, and the food was superb. Very cosy, loved the open log fire (not many of them around these days in Pubs).

Went in for the first time in a while recently, since the changes. It was all but empty and the lights were dimmer than a Brunel regular, the lower area of the darts side was poorly laid out and all the tables were laid out for food, didn't feel right having just a beer. Left quickly to wander over to the packed Union where a band where churning out some nice music, rather than listeing to a mouse sneezing in the Waterside.

Plucked up the courage to go in there very recently.

I was a bit wary because I`d witnessed a lot of the problems that existed here, pre-2006.

I`m delighted to report that the atmosphere and ambience of the Waterside Inn has changed out of all recognition. Goodbye, pool table. Hello, house plants and modern-style pictures on the walls.

The more `challenging` staff have since departed along with the problem customers that plagued this historic waterfront pub over many years.

The Waterside Inn deserves to do well now.

Dee, the landlady, has worked wonders, not only with the spruced up interiors, but with bright, smart bar staff who actually look like they enjoy their jobs. And yes, the food`s good too. Me and the Mrs chose steaks with all the trimmings from a wide ranging bistro-style menu - and very good it was too.

Walked past with the dog on a sunny autumn evening and found a whole group of office workers slurping there after work. Even 18 months ago, they wouldn`t have been seen dead in the place.

In the 1970s, when it was the Wheatsheaf, this was one of the great pubs of SE Cornwall. Having undergone so much change, in such a short space of time, the pub is now rebuilding its customer base and hopefully rediscovering its long lost character.

Me and the Mrs had great steaks with all the trimmings.

Any pub that turns off the lights when there is nobody around needs a sharp lesson in business management. There are still the same knuckle-dragging regulars, the new owners clearly have not learned any of the lessons of the past. You need to make the drunks and the teenagers know they are not welcome if you want that pub to be truly busy (also invest a bit into the place, it really doesn't look inviting).

New Owners again!! Hello from Mike & Dee. Oh my gosh, what reviews we've had! We have recently joined pub watch, come and see us and let us reassure you that the apes and monkeys have been politely asked to leave. We are warm friendly people whom welcome similar ilk. We are truly excited about making The Waterside a great place to visit, we serve food daily and you wont be disappointed, our chef is amazing. You will be welcomed by friendly people who can offer you a fully stocked well kept bar. We have a mountain to climb to regain your company but we are getting. there. See you soon we hope.

Please give this pub a fair trial. The new owners are wonderful and have big plans for the near future and have already made significant changes. The food is tops.....wicked sunday roast! Great for live music and children are safe as we noticed bad language was not tolerated here. We travel 40 miles to visit this pub and love it.

I would rather have my right leg gnawed off by a rabid prostitute then spend a second in this bile filled hole. The chavs that plague it now are obviously recent escapees from the local monkey sanctuary and the atmosphere could be cut with a knife, and regularly is.

This place started to go downhill after Mike and Joe split and hasn't really recovered. Recently it's been done up but the swelling masses at the Union don't seem tempted to cross the car park to fill the empty space inside. The last time I went, there wasn't even any beer on tap.

Change hands i hear, Hooray! maybe now the place can have a bit of character to it.

This pub would be so much better with a new owner. Fab location, good size, its just needs a new owner. If only Phil from the Cecil could take it under his wing, eh bert.

A year on from Trystans comment and it couldn't now be further from the truth. The landlord is a cantankerous old seadog and the pub is a pit. OK they had some flooding, but this was after i last saw it. Cold, boring and not worth the climb back up the hill. If i cud say one positive thing about the waterside it would be that they have or had live chipmuunks there, and are now prob the only living thing that is in this pub. New owner please.

OK if you are a student or into sailing.
