I still think the Victory could be better... Beer still limited; Deuchars Caledonian 80/, Victory ale (?) and (best of the lot) Adnams Drey bells during a visit Dec 23rd 2014. Both bars always feel quite cold, maybe because of the large conservatory to the right. The Main bar also has a table the size of Essex placed right in front of it which obstructs the bar if anyone is sitting there. The setting is great, but The Coast (just up the road) steals the limelight...

3 ales on - Deuchars IPA and Adnams Broadside - there was a 'Victory' ale on offer - I asked who brews it? - Deuchars was the response...in that case I'll have a Broadside thanks... the Broadside was great though and the place is friendly...good for families as highlighted elsewhere.

Good pub in a great setting... Have only visited in Winter, but would imagine packed in the summer months. Do try the Oyster shack over the road as well (Nothing slips down better than a local Colchester Oyster with a touch of tobasco!). Back to the Victory though; Bar is to the left and centre (food is very good), with a conservatory off to the right for dining. My score would be higher than the 6 I have given it if the beer was better... I'm not a fan of Deuchars, so the IPA ABV 3.8% & Golden XPA ABV 4.3% were not my favourite tipples (I think it would be better to have an Caledonian 80/- or a flying Scotsman with the IPA to liven things up...) There is also a Victory ale, but all seemed a bit watery for my liking.

Wanted to order food for my family at 6pm on a Sunday in July and was told they had finished serving. Utterly ridiculous and no use to us, thus the 0 rating!

Very friendly landlord and a great family pub. Light and airy though ever so slightly too 1990's for the charming Edwardian building. Hardly detracts though - beer kept beautifully. Packed on a sunny Sunday.

great family pub ales pretty good, food ok (Oyster bar is worth the wait). friendly service. Its one for the kids as the garden is big and well kitted out.

Recently visited this busy pub on one of the few fine Sundays we've had this summer. Food was really excellent although a little patience was required owing to the 45 minute wait. However this gave us more time to enjoy the very decent beer and the terrific views from the front garden. Highly recommended.
