Rather liked this place. Good pint of Abbot and an original vegetarian option on the menu. I don't often eat veggie, but the roast veg in a beer and cheese sauce in a pastry tart just called to me. In the event it turned out so good I hardly knew and cared less that it was meat free.. Herself reported that the lamb steaks in apple and stilton were damn good too.

The best pub in Melford at the moment (which is not necessarily saying a lot as most leave much to be desired). However, The Hare is a good old-fashioned well-run locals' local. It's busy all the time and the pub-grub is popular. The beer is Greene King (if only it were Adnams) but is well kept. Atmosphere friendly and bustling.

Good old fashioned English pub. Lots of friendly locals, good food, great beer garden, successful football team!

We visited this pub mid-afternoon on a Sunday and were pleased to find they serve food all day every day. The pub is owned by Greene King and the only beers on offer were Abbot and IPA but these were served in good condition. Despite the time of our arrival the pub was busy with people eating- clearly the Sunday lunches are very popular. We didn't want traditional Sunday lunch so ordered from an extensive menu of alternative choices- and the food was 'pubby' rather than restauranty. The kids menu was better than average- ours really liked the 'chicken on a stick'. Nice beer garden. I'd recommend this pub to anyone visiting Kentwell Hall as it's right outside the gates.
