We arrived late in Woodstock on a Tuesday hoping for lunch. Other places in the town had closed since it was 2pm. The Star was unfazed however and all food was 'on'. . I very much recommend this place. My wife had a small fish and chips with mushy peas (and a glass of dry white to go with it). It was nicely cooked and not too much. I had their beef and ale pie with chips - and a pint of Directors. It was excellent. The pie especially so. It had a proper puff pastry case and top - a rare thing these days - and it was excellent. Possibly the best steal and ale pie I have had.. Service was great, even mints as you paid. I would have rated it 10 except that our table top was slightly sticky. Definitely will go again.

Nicely done with lots of dark wood and a stone fireplace, it's a Young's/Wells house but did have Director's as a guest while 'English Tapas' - scotch eggs, garlic mushrooms etc sounded pretty decent. It's quite a smart place and one can imagine an infestation of Hackett and Thomas Pink shirts of s summer evening while Woodstock is beautiful indeed. Looked to be the best oub in toen although we did not see the Black Prince.

Stayed in Woodstock last Tuesday after change of hotel plans and went for a wander.
After visiting an Arkells pub with only 3 other customers and a severe lack of atmosphere, I bobbed in here to see a quiz night in full swing with about 60 customers, clearly enjoying themselves.
Service from 2 young blokes was fine and the Bombardier[not really a favourite of mine] was in good form, 3.30 per pint which was a bit of a shock after 2.85 for the Arkells; price clearly isn't everything.
Would certainly visit again if in the area.

More like a sympathetically restored National Trust property's cafeteria than a pub. A tourist haunt for food and families. A Wells/Youngs house with Directors as a a guest beer. The Youngs Gold was a nice pint though.

Didn't try the food but the ale was in a nice condition. We went to have a read and a game of cards, but I'd say it was more of a socialising (read: loud!) pub. Probably a great place to go for a drink with a group of friends though.

Visit: 13th April 10

We needed a place for an early evening dinner for 2 children, a teenager & 3 adults - we found The Star in Woodstock somewhat by chance!

The layout of the Pub is fantastic for people who just want quick beer near the bar, or like us, who needed seating for 6. The tables were well spaced plus there was also a really secluded alcove, giving a private feel. There was a good range of beers on the evening we went with at least three cask ales plus lagers. We had both the Bombardier & Directors which were well kept and served in branded glasses. A personal preference is to not use the plastic sparklers on the end of swan necks that give the beer a creamy head. Great to see The Swan doesnt use these so you have a beer as the brewer intended! House red was also a great quality.

There was a good range of food on the menu as well as a childrens choice and specials board. The quality and portion sizes of all the choices we made were not disappointing in any way.

One final real asset to the pub were the staff, who were attentive, friendly and extremely accommodating.

If you are in Woodstock this is definitely a pub to try.

Passed by last night and had the best pint of Staropramen I've ever had outside the Czech Republic. Good choice of real ales too.

Recently revisited this pub and again found it brilliant! Its a pub with superb beer ,Black Sheep,Bombardier and Broadside at the time of visit were all exceptional. Also theres an excellent range of quality draught lagers incuding Staropramen,San Miguel and Hoegaarden too. Food was excellent and great value and what a selection of bottled beers and spirits....... 5 different vodkas and about 12 malt whiskies. Something for everyone i reckon. Live music in the evening with Stannah and the Stairlifts.....a brilliant night that had everyone dancing on tables. If you want a great night with great beer, great company and a brilliant atmosphere visit this pub. I love it!!

I think this is slightly above average pub, with good selection of pub food at really good value prices. Nothing out of the ordinary, but good allrounder!
