user reviews of the Toby Carvery, Snaresbrook

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The waiting staff are very patient and friendly. There is a daytime manager with an attitude problem who needs sacking. He called my Mother (81) and me "Guys". Not the best way to speak to a customer.

The food is always good - it's what you pay for and for 5.50 it's pretty good!

Glad to know it's still a crap pub beerwise. Stopped using it once the fools that own it decided to rename it 'Toby Carvery Snaresbrook' after hundreds of years of it being named The Eagle. They have now had to put the Eagle name back onto the building but still have it in the phone directory as the Toby Carvery. If you're in the area and want beer go to the Nightingale. No rating left as I've not gone here recently.

MMMmm. Typical Toby pub. Beer is certainly not the priority.

have lived around wanstead for many years and been into the eagle many times
-if you expect decent service and friendly attentive staff, you really shouldnt go to this place, the bar staff are never in a hurry to serve you(but the guest beers are sometimes good) hence my visits
the carvery is good ,but the waiting staff and mainly the manager(s) are unbelievably rude, ignorant and without any experience for customer service
all in all,if you could take replace some of the staff, this place would be a great atmospheric place to meet/eat,-instead,it is rife with staff who believe they are the more important than the place itself..........cmon guys, get your act together, quit the ignorance and employ some decent staff with at least some common sense.............you could make this place a lot more welcoming!

I walked into this place. Five staff behind the bar but not one of them attempted to serve me. I left.

I went here for a Sunday lunch, just before Xmas. The place was manic but the staff were very efficient, friendly, and patient (my friend was indecisive about what to order, after we had said we were actually ready...).

People need to remember that this is not some gastropub with haut cuisine and silver service; it's a Toby Carvery. If one sets one's expectations at the correct level ("cheap and cheerful", and it was both!), then it's a fine place to go. The carvery buffet was better than I expected, and I rather enjoyed it (except for eating too much: oops. But that was my fault).

My expectations were well met, and indeed I am off there for lunch and a couple of pints again today.

Speaking of pints: they DO have a guest ale on tap there, contrary to what someone else said. But the rest of the beer selection is fairly ordinary, I will admit.

Went in here tonight for a meal with the family. Unusually, we were seated very quickly and there was no queue for the food counter. Unfortunately, the guy carving the meat didn't seem to know what the fork was for and the meat came out shredded and he took ages to do it. So much so that by the time he had done ours (me + 3) there was a sizeable queue behind us !

Meal was as good as a Toby can be and the waiting staff were attentive and available when required. If you can avoid Sunday lunchtimes (which are insanely busy) then this is a cheap and filling way to go for a meal.

Needs investment in toilets that don't leak, and seating that is not threadbare. However, I was impressed by the staff who were methodically cleaning the behind-the-scenes areas, and the fridges. Should have wiped the rickety tables, though. My wife thought the salad was limp.

I really enjoy the Food here, but the Staff are beyoned belief in thier rudness, they have absolutley no sense of customer service and seem completely and utterly miserable.

Ridiculous queues, Soggy meat, Soggy veg? You must really despise your parents / grand parents if you take them here for Sunday lunch. I long for the days of the working man's bar with it's Jukebox and cramped pool table. Churchill must be turning in his grave.

You must be brain dead to get a job in here. When you gain experience you can qualify for McDonalds.

Waited 20 minutes to be seated even though the place was practically empty. 'Not my section' said the half-wit waitress who was picking her teeth.

I took one look at the dried out grub and decided it was time for a diet anyhow.

Pleasant enough pub, reasonable selection of drinks, food is not too bad, all in all an average, unremarkable pub with nothing bad or good to say. Shame the staff are slow but other than that, it is ok. Not worth a diversion but ok if you are in the area, especially now it is non-smoking.

nice outside area when the weather is fine, bit dated inside and can get very packed during all weathers, but in all, an ok pub

Smells of cabbage from the carvery. Lots of criminals who have got off at the law courts nearby. Pretty useless barstaff, who never stay long, and have to wear stupid uniforms. The garden's good though.

Great food. Great beer but could have more variety. Great orange juice! Great little garden bit as well. Lovely pub.

There was a great deal of controversy when the owners dropped the correct name after its refurb. Local people power prevailed and the pub was called by its proper name, "THE EAGLE", as shown under the words Toby Carvery at Snaresbrook.

The beer is very very expensive. There also now one of those over priced lodges for use by reps.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Food great but slightly expensive but well worth it.
