Posh, in a pub chainy kind of the way. The sort of place where the food comes in on the back of a lorry, i would think. Nice pint of pure amber ale. Only problem was the fire was billowing smoke into the pub.

Been in since the makeover - you wouldn't know.

This is a good pub with nice food and beer but we left due to the clientele - noisy chavs out for a "posh nosh" who couldn't even use a knife and fork properly. It put me right off my pint having to sit next to them.

I know some would say who cares but when did the British become so common?

And when did parents/school meals assistants stop teaching kids how to eat politely?

Nice comfortable pub with oak panelling and friendly bar staff.
Usually 3 real ales on (2 at 3.15 but the guest ale is 3.50!!! on occasions).
Food is variable. Had a cracking Lancashire hotpot and the Hunter's Chicken was very nice too. However more recently both my wife and I tried the 8oz burger which was very dry and heavy going.
Will go back again but not too often as I think they are top whack on the ale pricing.

Went there for Xmas dinner last year, going again this year + we are going on another two occasions to the Xmas fair lunch so we can sample the whole menu. Excellent food need I say anymore. Great beer garden in the summer & roaring log fire in winter very comfortable.

I have always had a good pint and meal here. Only issue is that amongst the otherwise excellent staff was one guy who kept calling the customers "mate". For some reason it got up my nose.

Highly recommend it though.

Visited this pub on Saturday 28th March 2009 and would recommend to all. The staff were friendly and helpful, the pub was clean and tidy, the food was reasonably priced and we did not wait ages for it to arrive. The drinks went down well too. We intended to do a pub crawl but returned here after half and hour away. It was a pleasure to spend 6 hours or so here. Would totally recommend and will definately return. 10 out of 10

You can certainly do better than this in Alvechurch. The pub has a slightly souless feel and the beer's a bit pricey. As for the food menu, seven quid for a burger is a bit much. The guest ale's pretty good at the moment but their permanent fixtures don't include anything other than mass-produced boring beers.

One of the increasing number of pubs that look like part of a chain but aren't. By that I mean the price tabs on the front of the pumps (which is handy really), the ale selection being Landlord and one guest(a good Bateman's Santa's Tipple today), and food that isn't as good as the establishment thinks it is. Places like this cropping up all over the place at the mo. Perfectly fine following a walk to Hopwood and back, but all too familiar when compared with pub-out-of-time that is the Weighbridge just up the road

Visited 28/11/08

It is a busy place which gives the impression that is popular, and obviously offers what people want locally.

My experience was that my mussels weren't fresh, they had been heated in a microwave, and the shells had splintered into the sauce. Some disintegrated another sign of over cooking. I asked for a finger bowl, and asked 3 different ways, and eventually the waiter understood what I meant. He was English!

My main course was OK, and the gammon came with two eggs, which I liked.

My wife's starter was pate which she found very fatty, but also no butter for the toast.

Her main course was a lump of tasteless chicken with sauce dropped on top.

Why didn't I complain? My wife didn't want me to cause a fuss.

The staff at the bar were very pleasant.

I had the lager, that name of which I cannot pronounce or spell. My wife had the Penfold chardonnay. Both very nice.

It is not a place either of want to revisit for food

Viisted the Red Lion for the first time on Sunday 22/6/08. Was very impressed with the pub, the service and the food was top drawer tho maybe a bit on the expensive size for the portions...Had some good looking beers on and one of my fave beers Staropramen. Tho I did not get to try as was driving, which is the usual when I pick a pub to go to for sunday lunch. Will be back!

A sprawling, well used and well kept local pub located in the village center. A large, partly decked beer garden at the rear provides additional seating. Popular for the food offer, but the beer is reasonable too - three real ales during my visit, including well-kept Bass which was a rare treat! Well-patronised during the day on weekends due to the unfortunately restricted opening hours of other local pubs.

Nice looking pub, food of a good quality but lacking in choice and good vegetarian options (only 1 for main course), and quite expensive. Pleasant atmosphere, good choice of desserts on the specials board, nice interior and exterior decoration. Very traditional.

Nice looking pub. not the greatest of choice in food, nice desserts though, in a nice area.

Nice pub this. Visited on a busy Saturday on a warm July night. It was quite busy throughout serving drinks and meals inside and outside in the very pleasant garden. Despite being this busy, I was asked by 3 separate bar staff if I required assistance. Guinness was a good pint. I'LL BE BACK !
