Fantastic place. Great to eavesdrop on a few local tales, even if they were generally of symptoms, prescriptions, and side-effects.

Beautiful fire, delightful beer. The locals are blessed indeed.

It was good thirty years ago, and it's good again now. Lovely little cosy pub, brewing its own range of tasty ales, mostly named after local-ish celebrity Captain Cook and his assorted exploits. A considered range of guest ales are available too.

Popular with locals and visitors alike, it's the sort of place you'd like to get trapped in on a wild and stormy night...

Absolutely amazing array of ale from this brewpub and other breweries. Quality is good as well.

Truly lovely old place.

Wish we could have spent much, much longer here.

The brewery is back to its old self with the return of Ian Jackson following the terrible attack on him in Darlington. On Sunday there were 7 Captain Cook beers available inluding the new Resolution bitter and the fantastic Black Porter. There were also two guest beers. Great to visit in the winter with the fire roaring.

Visited at the weekend. great as ever. Had a couple of theirs to start but was guted that the porter wasn't on. No fear they had a Black Pearl from Milestone brewery which was wonderful

There were four Captain Cook brews available plus three guests (I think) - the Slipway was an excellent pint. Friendly staff and locals, I would have like to have stopped in the town overnight for their Burns Night!

Outstanding pub with excellent real ale and a relaxed atmosphere - probably my favourite pub in the North of England.

Double fronted pub just off the town centre with tasteful wood panelled interior. Brewery tap for the co-located Captain Cook Brewery. Six hand pulls serving Captain Cook and Consett Ale Works beers all in fine condition. Comfortable single large bar with a lower area finished with ample leather seats and an upper area looking more used for dining than easy drinking. Interesting pictures and CAMRA awards decorate the walls along with some pewter and pump clips.

Great pub. Friendly, coal fire, always a good choice of well kept beer. Never miss when I am in the area.

Best pub for miles around (many miles).
Micro brewery on-site produces the finest beer you will ever taste (even if the brewer is barmy).
Go there. You will not regret it.
