The Commercial, Herne Hill

This is a terrific pub, a pukka local in a very friendly corner of south london. The staff are consistently good and the management operate in a very low key, firm but fair way. The food is good without being too gastro and the range of drinks is excellent, satisfying everyone from the carling drinker to the wine enthusiast. The Addlestons cider is superb and the Australian Merlot slips down beautifully, particularly when you're sat by the fire. Sure, it's not the cheapest pub around but there's something reassuringly expensive about The Commercial, especially if you're a Herne Hill local.
