The Duke of Somerset, Aldgate

Sorry to say that since Dave left in January the new management have set about dismantling what had become a great venue. The new manager seems to have no interest in the customers and only makes token appearances, apparently spending most of his time 'in the office'. The bar staff, whilst pleasant enough, seem to have no motivation. As for the proliferation of candles, menus and condiment sets everywheredespite the distinct lack of suitable tables at lunchtimes, this place now looks and smells like a Little Chef with a bar! Such a shame as if ever the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' applied to anything, this pub was certainly it. Shame on the management, who obviously haven't a clue. Just see the previous comments and you'll reaise how they've really f***ed this up. The only real exceptions are the music & dj nights on Thursday and Friday evenings, although Thursdays have come to a halt recently.
