Just what Carshalton needed. Proof that there are normal people who enjoy going out in the area.
Loving the coal fires, good food and friendly vibe. Lots of women in here which is always a good sign.
They have done a great job of restoring the place and have kept the original bar and opened the space up at the same time. Good choice of wines and decent lager too which is a rareity in an area of Stella and Fosters pubs.
The only negative was that when I had food on Saturday there was far too much mayonaisse involved but we were offered a free drink when we moaned.
This pub has had a bad rep for years but has totally changed. It wouldnt be out of place in Wimbledon village - seriously!
Go and see!

The Sun, Carshalton
When The Sun first reopened, I wrote a review on here saying that it was a very welcome addition to the area and great for someone looking to get away from the chavvy and/or old man pubs Carshalton has to offer.
However, one year on it's a shame to say that this place has slipped. It seems that on a busy a night there seems to be less "control" in the place with senior staff members often nowhere to be seen which makes the place feel a wee bit less comfortable than it used to. Also the place has become far too expensive for the area and the justification that it's a cut above the rest is no longer true.
This place had real promise and for the younger professional in the area (I'm 28) was a great little pub that didnt involve a train or taxi journey out somewhere else. So sad that the management haven't listened to people's concerns and I feel it's going the same way as The Woodman.
I will still spend my money here but just not as often.
