Old Crown, Weybridge

This is a really lovely pub. The wines (served by the "basin") were great, the clientele were really friendly and the food was perfect. It's not gastropub material - you'll get no pan-fried sea bass fillets with herb mash or what have you - but the Old Crown special toastie (ham, cheese, tomato, peppers & horseradish) with a side order of chips hit the spot like sea bass can't. Sorry, sea bass. Plus the staff were all so welcoming and the garden so lovely, we didn't want to leave. Once we finally did we were left with an air of goodwill - helped, obviously, by the food and booze but mainly be the sheer niceness of everyone and everything about the Old Crown - that took a good 3 or 4 hours to evaporate and turn us back to the scowling ill-tempered cynics we are.
