I used the Crown after work until a couple of years ago when it seemed to lose it's easy going atmosphere. Called in again in the run up to Christmas and was pleasantly surprised to find it better than ever. Although the drink menu is not extensive, what was on offer was fine. The biggest change is the return of of the laid back friendly atmosphere. Apparently re-opened under new management, the staff were welcoming and pleasant. My first visit back was a Friday tea-time. An older guy has been brought in to present afternoon/ early evening karaoke, he too had the cheerful bug and was quite funny at times and played decent music from years gone bye at a level conversation was not spoiled. The ceiling to floor windows give a continental feel to the place that really works. I and my wife have been in several times since. Here's hoping standards do not slip again.

The Millstone, Manchester
Millstone is in the the Northern Quarter of the city centre, an area tipped to be the next "place to be".No idea what it's like as a hotel, but as regards a pub, some good, some bad. I found the staff and the owner really eager to please and easygoing. Stuck to the Guinness which I enjoyed. Early evening entertainment is provided, which according to the regular users I was chatting too is at times ok other times not. The biggest problem is space. Even when only half busy the layout makes it cramped and uncomfortable. A shame really because the seem to try hard to make it work.
