The Royal Standard, Ely

Not a welcoming atomosphere..........a definite understatement, in fact after many years of going to this pub i've been highly disappointed with the new landlords.
A few friends and i went for and after dinner drink just to finish off the night, and were surprised initially at how quiet the place was for a Saturday. I now know why....we could here the landlord swearing at someone on the phone, clearly annoyed at them, but not really what you'd expect as a customer to hear. We decided to stay none the less and have a second drink, at which piont we were informed this was not possible as it was past last orders (no bell or announcement from the staff). The bar staff were rude and abrupt and having worked in this industry it's something you can not afford to have go on. They continued to serve their "friends" whilst we finished our drinks and they escorted us from the pub slamming and locking the door as we left. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my entire life and i can not recommend strongly enough to leave this pub off your list!
