Merchants, Lancaster
An absolute champion pub in historic Lancaster. An atmosphere that really appeals as a traditional looking building with exposed brick work around the bar area. Leading off from the bar are separate long rooms, two of which are for dining, one more for playing, as its contents includes a pool table, dartboard and quiz machines.
The menu has all the hall marks of a bar whose manager and head chef is allowed to have input on the food they serve. Which, means youll find the favourites: burger, lasagne, fish and chips plus the obligatory Lancashire Hot Pot; but then the menu breaks off in a tasty direction of Moroccan lamb, chicken and wild mushroom and pan fried salmon fillet. Then the rustic favourites show themselves in an excellent cheese and deli board.

The Merchants has a nice balance seldom seen. During the day its a traditional pub serving lagers, ales, beverages and pub meal favourites. Then by the evening it can become a place to enjoy a delicious evening dinner and bottle of wine that rivals the more dedicated restaurants in town.
The Merchants is a pub that seems confident and sure of itself and its direction. Well managed, well staff and many all things to many people without spreading itself thin.
