We should have guessed and gone elsewhere when we arrived on the third Friday before Christmas and the dining room was empty.

The Rose and Crown served the worst pub meal I have ever eaten. The Cup-a-Soup was bad, the carvery was a bit better but only just and dessert was inedible. An individual Christmas pudding with "brandy sauce". How anyone can go so wrong with a packet sauce astounds me. It tasted as if it had been made with a whole cellar of salt (or worse). Our complaint was met with an indignant "It's got brandy in it!" and it was replaced with a "fresh" fruit salad with custard. The unpeeled and diced, including the core, apple was fresh but not sure what else.
