The Half Moon, Putney

Having lived in Putney for 4 years i was able to try all the local pubs (most of them on the first night in fact), and this is just about my favourite of them all. Great beer, lovely staff and a wonderful mix of people.....i have never had a bad night here.

The music here isn't what it used to be, but we still enjoyed some great nights watching Harry Hill, the Small Fakers and a few other dubious tribute bands. They have recently added food to the bill and the roasts are cracking value, but this pub is all about the beer and the people. Whenever i am back in Putney i will look to end the night here.

The Spotted Dog, Barking

To achieve the tag of 'best pub in barking' would be about as difficult as achieving the tag of 'best jockey in Andrew Thornton's road', but this pub would stand up as a good un in any town. The staff are lovely, the locals are friendly, the beer is fine and the building is impressive. You can always find somewhere to sit and the resident Elvis impersonator is so good that i was convinced that the great man himself was indeed alive and well and living in Barking. That said i was also convinced that the lass opposite me that night was Megan Fox.....alas she looks more like Basil Brush. If you want a decent drink up in Barking head to the Spotted Dog, there's simply nowhere better for a good long way.

The Cat's Back, Wandsworth

A gem of a pub in staggering distance from both Putney and Wandsworth. Great beer, cider that could daze a horse, live jazz, friendly staff and a gorgeous warming little building in which to drink away the hours. I have never tried the food but i'm sure it is fine, and even if it wasn't i'd enjoy eating it in a pub as wonderful as this.

I remember drinking in here once and the lad playing the trumpet laid his instrument down to greet a visitor. Turns out he had sent his mum up to the petrol station to pick up some sarnies. You wouldn't have seen Miles Davis doing that.

There are some really lovely pubs in this area but for me this one is well up there with the best. If you're in the area make sure you hunt it out, because you will only pass it if you are going to the dentist or you are lost. A truly wonderful pub.
