Larwood & Voce Tavern, Trent Bridge

Has undergone an extreme makeover and couldn't fail to be an improvement on the filthy chavhole it once was. Sadly it's far more gastro than pub these days, food looks decent though it's far from cheap. Popular with families, far too many of whom are from West Bridgford's brigade of yummy mummys, their repugnant spoilt offspring and their worn down husbands (who'd clearly much prefer to be in a proper boozer). A decent enough place to take visiting in-laws but you wouldn't make it your local.

The Henry VI, Eton

Cracking boozer, decent ale, great live music from the fabulously versatile Steve on Sunday nights - ranges from 'Carrickfergus' to Green Day, Gershwin to the Jam, Billy Joel to the Pogues. A splendid night out.
