The Cross Guns, Avoncliff

We go to this pub occasionally when we visit family in the area...our most recent visit in Feb 2007 was a delight. The pub's own brews from the Box Steam Brewery were excellent, so good in fact we tracked down the brewery on our way home the next day to get some 'take away' as recommended by the flyers in the pub, only to find the place locked and no one answering the phone numbers recommended, shame!
Food at the pub is good and the portions enormous.
The only slight down side is the treck to the outside loos, not a problem in the summer months when most clientelle are enjoying the gardens I'm sure, but a bit of a pain in February.

The Queens Head Inn, Harlow

Great pub, food's good and the house beer 'Websters Wonderfull Wallop' (Nethergate best)is a must...will be all the better when the smoking ban comes in!
