Portway Hotel, Staunton-on-Wye

We booked a stay at this hotel in March 2010 then happened to see the only review, which made us a bit unsure. Within minutes of arriving, we were reassured. A most hospitable welcome followed by being shown to our comfortable room. We ate a very good meal in the evening by an open fire on what was a very cold night. We learned that the inn had been under new management for about four months. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. In the morning I requested the Herefordshire breakfast and was impressed by the quality of the fare, particularly the bacon which I assumed must be produced locally. Overall, top notch. If you are in the area, give The Portway a try.
