The Farmers Boy, St Albans

My girlfriend and I moved into a flat nearby over the summer, and, like an earlier poster, we too avoided going in as it didnt look that welcoming on approach.

Big mistake.

Since wandering in one evening in September, this has become firmly established as a favourite of ours.

The Farmers Boy may not have the "olde" history of some St Albans pubs, but as a resident, I will leave that aspect to the tourists.

This pub has everything I want in a local. Good ales, good wine (well, the Mrs rates it), Food (not tasted yet), board games, quiz machine, books about beer, more books about beer, a beer garden, and a toilet.

Contrary to some comments, I have always found the service to be efficient and friendly. Twice on Saturday evening the barmaid brought my pint to the table rather than have me wait whilst the barrel was changed.

A pint and a glass of dry white only nudged over �5 - miraculous for the area!

If you are walking down London Rd between the city centre, and the mainline station, you could do a lot worse than taking a pit stop here.

If you live nearby, I thoroughly recommend popping in of an evening and tasting their own brewed beers.
