Not bad, and ok ales. However, I know for a fact that they use to make your shandy with beer from the drip tray if you were dining, so beware. Nice location. 5/10

I agree with the comments below but would add that, in my opinion, the Guinness has always been very poor in my opinion - thin, too cold, with an unpleasant bitterness. I've eaten here three or four times, only once did I enjoy my meal. I think this place relies on its location and the reputation it probably feels it has built up through the annual oyster festival. And bad Guinness is even more unforgivable in my book than bad champ. Go across the road and into the Hillside (marginally better...but not a lot).

Good pub and good overnight accommodation too. Food average in my book: mussels I had were small and chewy, the broth so salty I considered sending it back. Fiancee's pie nice, pudding not so nice. Ale good, Aspall's cider very nice. WW2 aeroplane pitcures on wall, cosy bar.
Full of egotistical uni types when I went, but that's better than it being full of chavs I suppose. Food could be better, beer v. good, accomodation v.good, service superb. 7/10
