The Chequers, Wooburn

Oh dear !....What have they done !....Used to be the cosiest warmest snug bar in Buckinghamshire. It could not be beaten for Olde Worlde charm. Now they have
replaced the rustic mahogany brown leather furniture with a ' garish modern grey upholstery' leaving it without the ambience it once had....traditional with modern doesn't seem to work for me. Unfortunately my company picked up on this after I had sang its praises...However pint was good but sadly it has lost its charm...New management perhaps ?????

The Old Bell, High Wycombe

This local pub now have new owners and what an impression they have made. My wife and I decided to pop along to this traditional village pub and ordered their 'regular burger and a cajun chicken burger....Both were cooked to perfection, loaded up with beef/chicken, juicy, moist and very tasty. My wife then had the 'Eton mess, adding that it was the best she had ever tasted. My main reason for being there however was for the beer, Rebellion and 2 guests...London Pride and Doom bar...All supped and all in excellent condition. The landlady Helen is perpetually on the move but always there for a warm greet for the customers...This place is definitely 'on the up', with great food and great ale..I've informed the neighbours and will be returning en masse !

The General Havelock, Wycombe Marsh

A fairly unremarkable pub from the outside..but Oh what a delight from the inside. A warm and cosy interior, log fire and decorated beautifully in a traditional style. The fact that it was a FULLERS pub out here in Bucks was a plus in itself. London Pride, Bengal lancer and ESB on draught with 3 guest ales. I started with the Castle Rock Harvest pale followed by the Lancer and an ESB. All, I have to say in excellent condition. The young gent behind the bar was friendly and helpful , a nice clientelle and dog friendly. This is a proper old English pub (hard to find nowadays) , where my wife and I felt really welcomed and comfortable ...It certainly wont be long before we go back..all in all, I believe I've discovered a little gem...schh, dont tell anyone !
