The Chequers Inn, Churchill

I went there recently for a leaving 'do' with work. The pub is very picturesque and I was looking forward to a nice meal. Sad to say, I was disappointed with both the meal and the drinks. Firstly, I found a large piece of plastic wrapper in my garlic mushroom starter. When I pointed it out to the waotress she simply said, "Ok I'll tell them," 'them' being the kitchen staff I assume, and that was that, no apology, no enquiry after my well being, no assurances that it would never happen again, nothing. Then, when the main course arrived, my plate was stone cold whilst my neighbours was too hot to touch, and the dish (chicken and bacon with asparagus) although tasty, was lukewarm. Then, to top it all off, I had to return my drink, a Jack Daniels and coke, to the bar as the coke was flat. I didn't like the fact that they don't serve bottles or cans of coke, but instead pour from a large bottle - which perhaps goes some way towards explaining why my drink was so flat. As I say, very pretty, but since it's quite a drive from Carterton, I'm afraid I won't be going out of my way to go back there based on this experience, and I won't be recommending it to anyone either.
