The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

Perfect. Went there on a first date yesterday and couldn't have picked anywhere better. Staff were excellent, the polar bear lager is delicious, I loved the decor (beer bottle light shades!), a fantastic pub.

The Minnow, Weybridge

I was in a couple of weeks ago - excellent food, great service from the young South African lass (sorry, forget her name). My only gripe is that there's a lack of comfortable furniture for people who just want to drop in for a pint and a chat!

The service has greatly improved in the last couple of years. A while ago, before the refurbishment, my mum was choking while staff were walking past. We asked for a glass of water and got "Still or sparkling? With ice?" Now I regularly go in The Minnow and the staff can't be faulted, in my opinion.

The Oatland Chaser, Walton on Thames

Looks quite nice after the renovation but no atmosphere or character. Waiting staff are excellent, service was quick and friendly; bar staff were dreadful, seemed bored and acted like we were putting them out by asking for a drink. Food was dire - I had pan-fried pork loin which was like leather, some excellent veg on the side but none of it stayed in long enough to make it worth a tenner. I was running for the loo within ten minutes of finishing. Go for a drink, don't touch the food.
