Profile information

I like a smoke free atmosphere so welcome teh new legislation.
I prefer a pub where you can stand or sit at the bar and converse with friends and locals.
I have strong felings about swearing in mixed bars and, although it does get me into difficulties sometimes, am not afraid to remonstrate with those who do.
Although I am over 50, I still have an active interest in all sports and enjoy watching international or special events but prefer pubs that do not have televisions on all day.
Juke boxes are good when they have a range of different ages (ie 60 onwards) but dislike loud music that is selected by themanagement.
God I sound like Victor Meldrew.
However, I enjoy pubs and I hope that we can preserve this British institution against the ravages of the continentals, americans (they dont know what beer is anyway) and alcho pops.
Keep up the good work.

The Chequers, Fordham

This is a good pub to visit for an evening particularly if you are hungry!
Both the Bistro and the main bar have been well refurbished and cleverly decorated.
Although there are no real ales available, there is still a good range of beers and lager.
Having said that the food, both the curries and the bistro meals are a high quality, plenty of it and pleasantly served by staff who seem to enjoy their work.
Pub holds regular live jazz evenings but not something I have yet experienced - watch this space.
