The Blue Boys Inn, Matfield

Sorry, but I don't have very nice things to say aout this particular pub. I visit a a lot of pubs, normally on a Sunday to have lunch. I always look for reccommendations on your site, which so far have proved invaluable. However the Blue Boys Inn is not mentioned in your lists, and so I hope it can be added...even if it is to tell potential visitors how bad it is.

The Blue Boys is by far the worst I have pub I have ever been to, in terms of quality of food, selection of beers and wines, and service. The food was overpriced, and really quite appalling. The steak was like a piece of old leather and the home made steak and kidney pie was more like tinned dog food! The manager was unneccesarily rude and unhelpful. All in our party of 6 were dissapointed with the food and beer in this pub. To make it worse, 15% service charge was added to our bill even though there was no mention of this on the menu or anywhere else! To all potential visitors - avoid this pub LIKE THE PLAGUE! There are some much nicer places to eat in Pembury.

The Ship Inn, Rye

I have just returned from spending the weekend in Rye, and made the mistake of staying at the Ship Inn (which is also a B&B). The food was not bad, I have better and Iv'e had worse. The beer was average, but the house wine by the glass is Hock! However, worst of all is the acocommodation. At �75 a night the room was pokey to say the least! The shower dribbled luke warm water, hardly enough to wash your hair under (!)and the supposed full English breakfast which is seved between 8-9 am cosists of nothing but 1 piece of bacon, a tsp of mushrooms and half a grilled tomato. The owners were Australian, and the landlady was very miserable and couldn't even manage a smile! Overall, a very average place, and there are far beeter places to spend the evening.
