Excellent location overlooking the Hamble River, though there is a small car park between the RS and the Hamble. Oddly the car park is free with another free one two minutes walk away.

The RS is basic pub grub, order at the bar, served at your table. The last time I had a meal there, in the evening, the music (not live) was too loud which made everyone speak louder. Service was mediocre.

The upstairs gives an even better view of the boating activity and until recently was closed during the day but I�m told a new area manager thinks this policy was silly, so the upstairs is open.

On a hot day or evening ask for you drinks in plastic and take them outside and sit on the small boardwalk that surrounds the car park. Very pleasant. Considering how good the location is I�m surprised more is not made of the RS. Redecorated last year (2010) but already showing signs of scruffiness (the double-glazing plastic upstairs) it really just a local in a fine setting that plays predictable pub music too loudly.
