The Pelton Arms, Greenwich
Good pub. Ales are well cared for. Bar staff hit and miss with knowledge of ales on sale. very nice eclectic mix of decor in pub. I was advised of the ale festival this weekend after visiting greenwich on business from the local paper which showed the wrong date and wrong number of ales. after a disapointing first visit (no festival and two usual suspects on the pumps). I talked my wife into a london sightseeing weekend based in north greenwich. We were pleased to be able to back it for the pubs ale festival! The team effort, teeshirts and atmospheren were great.Ales were suberb (but very limited and not wide choice but well cared sadly let down by the harrased students serving. Ale menu was not updated as to what was "finished" etc so it was a little bit like guess work. laminated cards were a good idea but "sold out" needed to regulary updated and thats where the many chalk boards would have come in handy. My wife is not a beer lover but was sold on a half of butcombe which was very nice but nothing unexpected in the wide range of ales that a london pub could have put on for their festival. Although a nice touch was to see distance traveled from brewary to pub on the menu but again pointless if you just got advised it was off.
Today we checked out of our hotel in greenwich before driving back. We popped in to see a bit of the band (music every sunday). Very good rock although not too busy (maybe the rain). For a pub that charges top price for their ales. Im unsure why they felt the need to charge a "supplement" of 40p on every pint while their band was on?! Disappointing!
We would invite the landlord to our local the adam and eve for some suggestions on food menu although we did find the food of a high standard at the pelton.
good luck
