Booked a weekend birthday lunch for 10 people; the roast lamb was huge, and the best my brother had ever tasted, I had sizzling fajitas (delicious), our vegetarians were well-catered for, and the little ones had fish/chicken/chips. Fantastic food, lovely staff, good beer. They didn't even mind when my 93-year-old grandad started singing (well, it was his birthday).

This pub is full of atmosphere - large black beams, roaring fires - and the food is varied and good. However, I agree with earlier comments about the staff - we had a fearsome barmaid! We had ordered ham, egg and chips, but ham and chips arrived. When I pointed this out, she argued aggressively that we hadn't ordered the egg, then when I said I didn't want the egg now, she said: "So you never wanted egg!" She also offered no sauces and was stroppy when I asked for some. So my favourite pub is now no more, I won't be visiting it again.

Completely agree with other comments. My mum and I went in here one lunchtime, and I was worried it would be blokey and a bit hostile. Not at all! The staff were welcoming and friendly, locals were nice, and the pub has an interesting interior. The food was good too, will definiely return.
