The Cornucopia, Southend on Sea

My comments are some 50 years old. My father was the licensee from 1951 - 1957 and I spent many a happy school holiday there. At that time it was the local fisherman's local (except for the annual illuminations when it was the first and last for the day-trippers who arrived by "charabang" in the Seaway carpark.) Then it was a "beer only house" no spirits were served. It had a small private or ladies bar. Recent photographs that I have seen show one bar. The feature of the pub was the assortment of bric a brac including preserved siamese twin monkeys and a glass case with evening dressed squirrels playing billiards. Quite a place for a teenager in the 50's to grow up.
