The Black Lion, Epping

This pub changed hands over the last few months. I was there during the week. Here's what I found:
£3.50 for a Doom Bar.
With the paint job and the cheap LED lights, it's like an ice cave
The speakers were blaring out loud rubbish music.
The cherry on top was the fire. It used to be smashing to have the log fire; really cheered me up on a cold day. Now it's replaced by a convector heater in front of an empty grate

The Rose Inn, Shotley

New licensees Sarah and Jamie (previously of the Shipwreck). Simple local pub without piped music. Various bits of merchandise to buy. Bitter �2.50 per pint and an excellent haddock, peas and chips for �7, making by far the cheapest pub in the Shotley area.
They were renovating the lounge when I was there but was planned to be complete for 20/05/2012.
Well worth a visit and a nice walk on a summer's day from the marina.
