The Three Horse Shoes, Chapmanslade
My local - 150 yards down the road, so know it well. Under relatively new management Lindsay's extremely welcoming and making a lot of effort to improve the pub. Running events such as horse race nights, kareoke and the forthcoming beer festival. Well kept 6X and Butcombe on tap plus a guest. Food is basic pub grub though well priced - if you want something more 'gastro' then try the Crossed Keys at Corsley or better still - The Angel at Upton Scuddamore.

I pop in regularly for a very good pint and I've eaten here with my wife a couple of times. Food's always been good, if not exceptional. Winelist is very good for local pubs in the area. The landlord isn't rude he's just got a very dry sense of humour and enjoys taking the mickey. I've got two kids and don't mind at all that they're not allowed in - makes for a nice change to be able to go somewhere and not be surrounded by little'uns!

The Porter Butt, Bath
This is an icon Bath boozer. Don't expect food, unless you're after a bag of scratchings - it's beer all the way here. Andy and Helen are fantastic hosts - provided you're fine with dour landlord routines and a sideways look on life. And no, that's no reference to the quality of the wine list - there isn't one. Pool table is the best in Bath, jukebox is now, sadly, defunct. But the beer is excellent and the local crowd very welcoming. Friday night plays host to an Irish 'session' in the lounge bar.
