Millstone Inn, Hathersage
Went there last night and wish we hadn't bothered now. Got there and ordered a lasagne and a sirloin steak (cooked rare). What arrived was almost definitely a rump steak and was cooked medium to well-done.
Here's the thing. No-one came over to check on our food once it had been presented. Having been asked to go to the bar to order, pay in advance (9 for a lasagne) and then collect my own cutlery and condiments on the way to a table was I now expected to perform my own courtesy check and ask myself if everything was satisfactory with my meal? Well. In short. Yes I was. No-one around us had any sort of courtesy check offered either.
No courtesy check means no communication between the front of house staff/management, the customer and the kitchen. Simple mistakes cannot be rectified in time and failed customers, like myself, will have a bad experience and leave disappointed. This is a basic principle of customer service.
If I was the person from the AA who awarded it 4 stars I'd be having a word with myself. Or Gordon Ramsey (if I had his number).
