The King and (S)tinker Public House
Zero stars out of ten for this pub!
I visited this Pub with a friend for a leisurely Saturday lunch and chat over a coffee. The pub is pleasantly located near to Whitewebbs Park, Golf Course and Guy Lodge stables. This pub is best avoided unless you enjoy eating funny tasting chicken, being served by obnoxious staff and do not enjoy visiting nice pubs. The landlord is from the Basil Fawlty school of customer service.
Unfortunately there was a problem with my friends meal, the chicken tasted funny and she couldnt eat any of it other than the initial bite. When we came to pay for the meal we mentioned this to the waitress who served us (she was lovely and very friendly) unfortunately the manager of the pub was very rude and ill mannered when we spoke to him. He refused to refund anything from the cost of the meal, and then talked over us and refused to listen when we explained the issue. He said that because wed eaten a third of the meal, (this was untrue) he would charge us the full amount. He went on to make rather childish remarks that it was my friends taste buds that didnt work, and that lots of other customers had eaten the chicken and not complained Although normally the chicken is cooked with a BBQ sauce which might mask the funny taste.
We refused to pay for the food which we hadnt eaten, just paying for the food which we ate. The manager then made some rather out of place remarks and told us not to come back, there are other pubs nearby, I'm unsure why he thought that we would want to come back, especially after the warm welcome he had given us. He then continued to make comments to us as we left the pub! I made a passing comment to customers on a nearby table about the lovely friendly service. I just feel sorry for the other staff and customers who had to witness his unpleasant and out of place attitude.

The Axe and Compasses, Arkesden
A Lovely pub, Great beers, Green King, Olde Trip and London Glory. A very enticing menu, food very tasty and good portions too. Staff very friendly and attentive. Beautiful thatched pub in a lovely village. Only fault is that food is a little pricey.
