The Queens Head, Bury St Edmunds
There are some interesting comments here about the pub's weekend personality loud and oiky, apparently. My only visit here was lunchtime on a spring day, mid-week, and it was a pleasant place. The garden/yard is a good spot to sit when the weather's fine and the interior is cool and quiet. The real ale was excellent in range and quality bliss in a town that's virtually owned by Greene King. Visited 4/07.

The Sir Richard Steele, Belsize Park
Made only one visit, but very impressed. Superb place with great atmosphere (early evening). The ale is mediocre, but no worse than normal for London. No experience of thuggery or coke-heads. HBC's experiences are interesting, but the pub was here before she was. Maybe a flat above a Brittany bakery would be just right for those not-fancying-London moments.

The Anchor, Rowhedge
I've never visited the Anchor in the evening, but it's a tremendous pub for lunch. The food is top quality and reasonably priced, service is quick and friendly, and it's heaven for vegetarians. A carnivore friend informs me that the roast beef is pretty fine, too.
The location on the riverfront at Rowhedge couldn't be better, and the building is very pleasant it's airy in the summer, cosy in the winter, and there's a good view of the river and the saltmarsh.
The Anchor is a Shepherd Neame pub. The ale is nothing to complain about 8/10 here.
