The Bull, Cottered

This pub is a favourite of ours. We always compare every where we eat to it and always go back time and time again. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. They always have a good selection of fresh seasonal fish available. The chefs are accommodating in providing something different if you have an allergy or simply just a fancy. They operate a non-smoking dining room with smoking allowed in the main bar after 10pm, which gets a thumbs up from me. However, smoking is allowed in the smaller bar where good extraction takes it away. You can eat throughout the pub and menu offered is the same wherever you sit. Not the cheapest but arguably the best food in the area.

The Three Tuns, Great Hormead

Visited last week. Food was good and the waitress was friendly. I think the new landlord (the person who said hello and goodbye to us) is much nicer and not so up his own backside as the last one. A big criticism from me is that they still insist on operating a 'smoking throughout' policy. That policy alone will keep us away until it either changes or a new landlord and landlady arrive for us to give it another try. The smoking throughout policy is a massive thumbs down and that is why I cannot rate it higher than 5.
