The Woolpack, Ipswich

Still a top pub and Dave's food is smashing. 6 cask ales on these days which rocks.

I went in on Sunday with the GF and found the food to be fantastic. Restaurant quality and then some. Hearty portions of local and well cooked fresh fodder with everything made in house. The price reflects this though I guess this depends on the context as its not Wetherspoons and you get what you pay for. My repast on Sunday was immense and cooked to perfection. We went again on the Monday for a snack and Even a simple cheese and chutney sandwich is poetry. Home baked crusty bread, sweet chutney made on the premises and really high quality cheese. I would have welcomed a big plate of proper chunky chips with this but they dont do them at lunch time for some strange reason.

Dont get me wrong, this is a welcoming place with friendly staff, the manager is an ausy but I can forgive him this as his cask ale policy is top notch in all ways. 3 local micro brews plus a national depending on his mood and good prices means that this place should be counted on any good Ipswich crawl along with the Woolpack, Spread Eagle, Dove and fat Cat. Do give it a try and support this independentfree house.

Oh, the guide-dogs were provided for also with no questions asked and water was offered as soon as we had ourdrinks. Perfect.

They lose a mark because of a lack of chips at lunch time.

The Spread Eagle, Ipswich

This is what a modern pub should be. Smashing bishops finger on last time I was in the TT landlord is also kept well. Comfortable welcoming and a credit to the new management. Its also none threatening and female friendly.
