The West End House, Kirkstall

Decent pub with well-kept beer, but pricey, and a visit is often spoilt by the management policy of blasting loud music through the numerous speakers dotted about the place, even when the pub is not busy. The volume is regularly set at a level which makes conversation a strain. Even the outside drinking/smoking area has a speaker! Maybe they think this will pull in the students on non-quiz nights, but from what I have seen this policy fails, and must discourage some who might otherwise become regulars.

The City of Mabgate, Leeds

Sadly now closed and turned into housing, no doubt to be purchased by some investor who will leave it standing empty for years while its capital value appreciates.

Thirteen Wine Bar, Settle

Heavens to Betsy, a wine bar has appeared in this otherwise traditional market town! Fancy coffees, Czech lager on draught, and Pimms topped up with pomegranate juice. I don't know what the local farmers make of it, but it seems to be popular with the young (and not so young) of Settle.
