Summer Sunday evening, slanting sunshine, lovely garden, fresh sardines on the barbie, friendly staff, happy children, good beer, bliss.

I agree with the previous posting. We visited in late July 2007 at lunchtime, while on holiday in the area, on a friend's recommendation. V. nice location, between twee village with stream & ducks at front and open countryside at back. Good play area and tables at rear. Pleasant-seeming bar staff. BUT food took ages to come and was poor. I had an OK crab sandwich, accompanied by a dull salad which, when it was half-eaten, turned out to have slimy, shrivelled lettuce hidden inside it which looked as if it had been retrieved from the compost heap. My wife's salad was gritty. The staff explained this by saying "we grow all our own lettuce" -- as if that was an excuse for not washing it. They agreed my salad was "disgusting" and blamed the kitchen, but argued about knocking money off the bill. We heard an elderly lady ordering a cup of coffee ask if she could have it "not too strong". She was told she must "take it as it comes". This could be a good place but is seriously let down by the failings of the kitchen and service.
