The Proud Gallery, Camden
I love the concept of this place. Totally original and well executed. In addition the sound in the live music and exhibition room is cock on, which is often overlooked where styling of a venue is concerned.
However, I'm not so keen on the people within it! The staff are rude and outrageously pretentious.
3 examples;
1/ Being made to queue behinnd a barrier by jobsworth doorman when there's no one else there. Why??
2/ Being sneered at by (I must add, very attractive) bar staff when pointing out that my 3.50 bottle of beer was warm. Cold beer is the first thing a bar should get right and I didn't ask you to stick it up your ar$e! why the sour face?
3/ Bog troll - whilst the "freshen up, freshen up" man was pleasant, it's Camden! people don't want to pay 1 for the 'privelidge' of washing their hands, and I don't need help doing it either, I learnt how to wash my hands when I was 3 thank you. Moreover, the toilets stink! sort that one out first before employing Mayfair-esque policies such as toilet attendants
Anyway, rant over. Proud is an excellent concept, if they could iron out a few basics and stop taking themselves so seriously (one of the fundamentals of rock n roll and art is that it is effortlessly cool, stop trying so hard)
