The Anchor, Faversham

The anchor used to be a favourite of mine to visit with family in the day time and friends in the evening. Not anymore. Since the last landlord Dave has left, I have been hugely dissapointed. What used to be a warm welcome and friendly service from experienced staff has now been replaced with rude and slow students who cannot hold a conversation with an adult. I have visited twice in the last year on a sunday evening when live music is held, and both times have waited a ridiculous amount of time to be served a drink, I have heard this from many other friends too.

After a few weekend visits with my family, I have not been back again for some time, we were not made to feel welcome, the glasses were grubby and overall the pub has lost the charming atmosphere I once loved.

Red Lion, Badlesmere

I have been visiting the Red Lion for around 6 years, probably around every couple of months when I get chance.

We usually visit as a family in the day times to have some lunch and stay a couple of hours, we have always found it very relaxing. It seems to be a family run business and the landlady and her staff have always made us feel very welcome, chatting and remembering us every time we have re visited. The waitresses fly around like busy bees and are always keen to accomodate our needs.

The lunch time menu offers the right balance of favourites such as scampi and chips and ploughmans with crusty bread, but also seasonal variations such home-made steak and ale pies with veg- all of which are reasonably price for home made food. Recently, I have noticed them creeping a bit more up market, I last saw a special of pheasant with a shrewsbury sauce, it looked delicious.

My husband is the beer drinker of the family and has always rated the beer excellent in terms of quality but also in the variation of breweries on offer, most of which are local micro-breweries.

On our last visit a month ago, to our surprise- the pool table had vanished! At first this was a little disapointing as our sons enjoy playing pool, however the pool table has been replaced with a comfy seating area, which is both classy and relaxing. It has changed the whole feel of the pub along with additional tables for diners and other 'snug' fireside areas where board games are close to hand!

Overall, we love this pub and bring friends as often we can. Definitely worth a visit!

Keep it up!
