We had a meal here which started well, prawns in tempura and veg in tempura as starters- very nice. We then both had the partridge with black pudding and salad as a main with chips. The chips were grey and looked like oven chips boiled in stale fat by a sadist. We sent them back and they were replaced by identical chips, slightly hotter. The partridge was dry, hard, tasteless and virtually inedible. When we informed the waitress she apologised and said she would tell the manager. After10 mins of nothing, by now at 10pm the restaurant was nearly empty, I went to find the manager and enquired whether he was aware of the complaint- oh yes, I've taken it off your bill, you probably don't know what game tastes like- is cooked pink! I advised him that I have had partridge before and it isn't usually like cardboard. No apology- I couldn't be bothered to mention the abominable chips. We left a tip for the staff who were very sweet. We had a great meal at the Royal Oak the night before.

Not been here for a while as was closed for some time. Very friendly locals and staff, roast dinner with real beef for 9 quid, with good selection of vegetables not overcooked! and very nice pint of well-kept Harveys. Recommended.

More food in the afternoon rather than beer in the evening I'm afraid, though the doombar was very good. However Sunday lunch of roast lamb and roast beef at £16 a go wasn't. Lamb was all fat and sent back. Beef was so tough I struggled through half of it, some of it I couldn't even cut. Potatoes hard yorkshire soft. Waitress said she would tell the chef and returned to inform me that he says that cut of beef has a good flavour but this means it's not tender like some cuts.... no apology or offer to make amends. Maybe he thinks I'm just trying to get a discount or a freebee dessert- I would much prefer to be able to eat my overpriced meal and enjoy it! At £16 this meal was just not good enough, I really despair of some of the food offered in this area, no wonder people go out of business, this pub was barely half full on a Sunday lunchtime. I also tell the barman of my woes when I pay- he says he'll " have a word" then charges me 40 quid!
