Cor blimey, guv - it's war! Interesting to note the comments since my first post a few months ago - maybe the name should change to The Marmite!

When I were young, way back in the 70's, it changed [from The Bricklayer's ?], and became a pub full of posers, in daddy's new car [just like The Fox, on Coulsdon Common]. We started frequenting The Prince Albert, Bletchingley, which was still a real pub - public and saloon bars; sadly, the landlord, Reg, moved to Redhill, and that changed.

The Beacon is a throwback to the older style. It is still a bit tatty [due to the new owner -from The Duke's Head- having devious plans, and not spending money on it], but Dawn and Paul, who I've got to know quite well, are making a good effort. They don't just want your money! As with all pubs, it will benefit from the 'No Smoking' law. Some of the natives are a bit iffy, but that's 'cos they're Chelsea or West Ham, instead of Palace!

Shame people post anonymously - stand up and be counted! [And be proud of your team, even if they fail in the play-offs!]

Now under new management - same owner as the Dukes Head up the road.
Friendly couple behind the bar - one's a nice young blonde, if you like that sort of thing!
Not the dump it used to be.
