The Rose and Crown, Ilkeston

My comments are based on a Bank Holiday Monday lunch which was poor. My friend and I had a 3 course lunch from the fixed price menu, which was �10. It seemed a reasonable price to pay but in my opinion, there is no such thing as a free lunch. I started with minestrone soup which was acceptable. My friend had a chicken salad to start with which resembled (and tasted) like sandwich filler and looked basic. For main course, we both had a pasta dish, which was just awful. Fresh pasta hadn't been used and the sauce was no more than tomato puree. It was very clear that it was out of a jar .... poor. For dessert we both had warm chocolate brownie and ice cream .. this was acceptable. The sauce was described as chocolate but to be honest, it was bordering on Nuttella, since had a nutty taste. A very poor meal indeed and I wouldn't go back to this play in a hurry.
