Dun Cow, Salthouse

Excellent location in a lovely part of the North Norfolk coast. I suppose I've never been too sure about what the pub itself sets out be but I used to find it pleasant enough as a place to stop and have a pint as part of a visit to Salthouse.

It has however become too expensive for me (hence my low rating). The last time I went, a couple of drinks (one of which was a J20) which I pay �4.50 for at another pub I visit cost me �6 at the Dun Cow.

Gatehouse, Norwich

I go to the Gatehouse for the Irish sessions it has on Sunday and Wednesday nights. From my perspective, it is an excellent venue.

John, the landlord, enjoys the music which is a big plus (sometimes, in other venues, you can feel a session is just about tolerated...). There is a reasonable range of real ale (Abbot, Wherry, Green King IPA and Grains Oak) well kept and at very reasonable prices. Both bars are good acoustically and IMO, the sort of old fashioned feel of the premises (and for that matter, the landlord ;-) ) help towards a good atmosphere for the sessions.

While I'm going there for the purpose of music, I feel that if I lived in Norwich (rather than up the coast in North Norfolk), I would pop into the Gatehouse from time to time for a quiet pint, perhaps sitting outside in the field at the back on a nice summer evening.
