it's taken me weeks to stop being angry at the service we got. it was terrible - we helped ourselves to menus, to water and had to ask for things repeatedly. we could see a loaf of bread and a carving knife so when the bread didn't materialise we discussed whether getting that was going a bit too far. There were 8 of us and we debated how much tip to leave - some felt we shouldn't leave any but in the end we withheld �8 of the discretionary charge and paid �280. they came back and queried it . when my friend spoke to the owner as we were leaving just to politely mention that we weren't very happy with the service the owner was really bristling and told us we couldn't leave the pub. I ended up losing my temper. You complain about the service and withhold �8 and they tell you you're not allowed to leave. I demanded what service charge we had paid back. I got it back but if the owner has a bad attitude it's no wonder the service is rubbish. shame because the food had potential - some things were nice, others should have been taken out of the fridge much further in advance as they were too cold and it would have been nice if we had all been served our food at the same time.
