The Barrels Alehouse, Berwick upon Tweed

what an outstanding place! A real mecca for the drinking enthusiast! I have been to many bars around the world and this has it all! (except dancing ladies on the bar) The reception was warm and friendly, the locals were from all walks of life but had a common trait of making you feel at ease. The staff were efficient helpful and witty. The range of drinks was top notch with everything from real ale to absinthe. They have a great basement bar which has just been refurbished and was like stepping down into a cocktail lounge on princess street in Edinburgh. A truely exceptional boozer!

The Portland Bar, Leith

visited this pub just after xmas 06, new management have taken over and they have some grand plans!
They are doing a full refurbishment in April 07 which sounds pretty exciting. I will certainly be back to visit as that area of Leith is lacking a classy establishmnet!!!
