The Rambler Country House, Edale
Just come back from a weekend in Edale. Normally go to the Nag's but, as it was closed, ended up in the Ramblers. I will not be going back....
The menu is a mixed bag (to be generous), some was OK, the rest really not edible (Spinach and Stilton was interesting). But hideously overpriced. Only allowed in the two front rooms which are devoid of atmosphere and over lit despite there being a completely empty third room. This is apparently reserved for guests, however on the friday was completely empty for the majority of the evening (we were there for about 5 hours altogether). The beer was again a mixture of acceptable to hideous. One pint, the England's Glory, was practically undrinkable by all 6 of us who had it. The rest tasted stale as if the pipes had not been cleaned for weeks.
The following evening the pub was packed with walkers but again no use of the third room (all reserved apparently!). Tried to reserve a table, but only available for guests. Having sprained an ankle during the day girlfriend and I decided to get a room instead of stay in the tents, and asked if we did that could all 6 of our party sit down to eat. Answer...No, only two of us could sit and eat despite the room costing 90. We left and drove into the Castleton. Head to the Cheshire Cheese and you'll find great value food and a double room for 60/night. Much more acceptable.
The staff and management of The Ramblers have absolutely no clue how to run a pub or the clientele that is attracted to their establishment. They deserve to go bankrupt.
Am amused by other peoples experiences. Don't think we had it quite as bad as others, but certainly one of the worst pub experiences I've ever had.
