The Cleveland, Brighton

Well, we've tried out the food this week (March 2012) and sad to say it's not too good. The chef is probably overstretched or underappreciated by the management - whatever the reason it's just not very good. Long waits, poor quality ingredients, unimaginative and generally sub-standard. Bar is still great and the bar staff are wonderful as always tho!

Previous poster is right, thank goodness! It's not a flash pub and is a bit scruffy around the edges. The once-fab chef has gone, but has been replaced by a new one recently so it's probably a good time to try the food again.... and to be honest as long as it's edible, clean and hot I don't mind - it's just my local. The barmaids are mostly PhD students, but will talk to anyone! Some nights it's almost empty, then another it's buzzing with locals eating at every table, sometimes just a few blokes sitting chewing the fat. On a sunny afteroon/evening it's rammed with families, kids popping back and forth from the park opposite, and tennis teams on post-match coolers. All-in-all it's just a local, something that's hard to find in uber-trendy Brighton. Long live the madness of the Cleveland! Oh and the beer's not bad; Harvey's, London Pride and some of that Belgian stuff.
